Nobody knew when the aliens landed
No invasion -- just a stranded
Ship brought down when its hyperdrive blew.
Nobody knew, nobody knew.
They slithered out to scrounge for parts,
cruised our malls and mini-marts.
Said, "These humans don't seem too bright;
Bet we could take them without a fight."
Nobody knew, so we didn't do squat.
Not that it really would have helped a lot,
But now it's too late and I guess we're through.
Nobody knew, nobody knew.
They fixed their saucer up and made it run,
Hied their tentacles to Washington
And found the White House, and beamed right through;
Nobody knew, nobody knew.
They took the President and pithed his brain,
Set him up as a man insane.
The next day he didn't make much sense;
Nobody noticed any difference.
Nobody knew, so we didn't do bupkis;
We could have used a little wake-me-up kiss.
But now it's too late and I guess we're through.
Nobody knew, nobody knew.
They found the governments of each nation
'Bout as clever as a crustacean.
Planted evidence and set up clues--
Nobody knew, nobody knew.
Soon alliances had gone to pot;
Bombed each other to a parking lot.
The Middle East was in an awful mess;
They didn't monkey with them, I guess.
Nobody knew, so we didn't do nada,
Knocked on our keister by our own armada,
But now it's too late and I guess we're through.
Nobody knew, nobody knew.
There were a few folks who caught a glimpse,
Knew they were playing our race for simps.
Thought they could come out to quash that coup--
Nobody knew, nobody knew.
But the aliens, they were too quick by far:
Planted stories in the Midnight Star.
Didn't worry when their cover blew:
'Cause ev'ryone knows that that junk's not true.
Nobody knew, so we didn't do jack;
Stuck that dagger right in our own back.
But now it's too late and I guess we're through.
Nobody knew, nobody knew.
They called their buddies back in their home state,
Gave them an invite and a move-in date.
While we sat there stuck in our quibbling stew,
Nobody knew, nobody knew.
The ships came down on Friday night;
At least they seemed to be polite.
They'll let us live up on the moon,
If we don't mind breathing hard vacuum.
Nobody knew, so we didn't do nuffin',
Sure is a shame nobody saw that stuff, 'n'
Now it's too late and I guess we're through.
Nobody knew, nobody knew.
